Covanta Niagara Fishing for Energy

Written by Covanta | Aug 11, 2021 4:23:43 PM

Covanta Niagara teamed up with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to help keep local waterways clear through the Fishing for Energy program. To date, the plant has converted about 450 pounds worth of derelict fishing gear into energy.

Fishing for Energy, a partnership between Covanta, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association and Schnitzer Steel Industries, provides commercial fishermen with a way to dispose of unusable fishing gear. By helping prevent and remove derelict gear, Fishing for Energy restores the quality of marine and coastal habitats, and supports the communities and industries that rely on these resources.
