Columbia University Professor Thanos Bourtsalas, a member of the Waste to Energy Research and Technology (WTERT) council, brought a group of Greek delegates to the Covanta Hempstead facility for a tour in early February. The delegates used their visit to the facility to aid with planning for construction of up to five Waste-to-Energy plants in Greece, which will help the country end its exclusive reliance on landfills for waste management.
